Get your hospital authorisation

To ensure full cover for your planned hospital admission, you must pre-authorise your stay in advance. Here's what you need to do:

Step 1: Get pre-authorisation on time

  • You or the provider must obtain pre-authorisation at least 72 hours before admission for full cover for non-emergency admissions.
  • In the case of late or no pre-authorisation being obtained, you will be responsible for a co-payment of R2 640.
  • In an emergency, go straight to the hospital and contact us as soon as possible.

Step 2: Call us

Contact us at 0860 100 078 between 08:00 and 17:00 on weekdays to pre-authorise your admission.

Step 3: Provide these details

When you call, have the following information ready:

  • your MEDiPOS membership number
  • ID number of the main member - required for security reasons - without this, the Scheme cannot load the authorisation
  • the name and telephone number of the doctor who wishes to admit you into hospital
  • hospital admission details - the date of admission and expected length of stay
  • your treating doctor's details - name and practice number
  • your diagnosis - including the ICD-10 diagnosis code (ask your doctor)
  • procedure details - name and RPL procedure codes (if available, ask your doctor)
  • hospital or day clinic information - name and practice number

If a dependant is being admitted, please provide their details as well.
